[Satellite TODAY 10-29-10] Harris Corp. won a $64 million third-year option for its Network and Space Operations and Maintenance (NSOM) program contract with the U.S. Air Force, Harris announced Oct. 28.
    The exercised option is based on the initial $416 million NSOM contract signed in January 2008 and will see Harris continue to provide operations and maintenance support to the 50th Space Wing’s Air Force Satellite Control Network at locations around the world. This option brings Harris’ overall value of the program to $218 million.
    The network is located at Schriever Air Force Base, Colorado Springs, Co., and is responsible for the launch, operation, control and maintenance of space programs managed by the U.S. Department of Defense and other national security space organizations. The network oversees satellite control centers, worldwide tracking stations and test facilities that maintain frequent communications with satellite constellations in orbit as well as enable readiness simulation, launch and early orbit support.
    Harris leads an NSOM support team comprised of Lockheed Martin Information Technology, Faith Enterprises Incorporated, ASRC Aerospace, Arctic Slope World Services, Avaya Government Solutions and Gunther Douglas.
