[Satellite TODAY 10-12-10] NATO has contracted ViaSat to integrate and install three UHF Demand Assigned Multiple Access (DAMA) Network Control Stations (NCS) and related turnkey services, ViaSat announced Oct. 11.
NATO’s $14 million NCS systems contract award includes an order for ViaSat UHF DAMA NCS software, RT-1830 and RT-1829 UHF satcom terminals, UHF satcom antenna systems, and related RF networking and installation equipment. ViaSat also will be responsible for system architecture, site preparation, equipment procurement, testing and support during the full-site integration and installation process.
ViaSat will install two fixed NCS sites to set up satellite communication channels for NATO operations in the Balkans, Afghanistan and other Theaters within NATO maritime and ground component commands. A third, portable NCS station will be installed to enable quick-response operations outside these areas to support NATO’s global mission.
The NCS sites are expected to be fully operational by fall 2011.
