[Satellite TODAY 09-14-10] STM Group has launched a new business unit, STM Government Division, which will focus on bringing DVB-RCS satellite communication standards-based technologies to the U.S. government sector, STM announced Sept. 13.
    STM said it hopes the new division will help the U.S. military and federal agencies better capitalize on DVB-RCS technology for bandwidth-efficient VSAT networked solutions. The company also plans to leverage its technology to supply Satcom products and services that can alleviate many of the existing bandwidth and coverage limitations faced in government use of satellite communication.   
    Eric Sivertson will lead STM Government Division as its CEO. Sivertson previously served as general manager of Xilink‘s aerospace and defense business.
    “With his experience and knowledge in secure communications, Eric can help meet the growing demand by US military for a standards based product that can be truly interoperable among multiple platforms,” STM Founder and CEO Emil Youssefzadeh said in a statement.
