General Dynamics awarded Lockheed Martin a $71 million contract to provide communications hardware and equipment for the transmission subsystem of the Warfighter Information Network-Tactical (WIN-T) Increment 2 program, Lockheed Martin announced Aug. 2.
The Lockheed Martin transmission subsystem will provide the foundation for the WIN-T network’s data transfer capability over a highly dispersed, non-contiguous area. Equipment produced will include transmission subsystem radios, modems, antennas and mast systems. The team will also contribute in the development and delivery of training courses to signal operators as WIN-T Increment 2 is fielded.
The WIN-T Increment 2 will equip tactical commanders’ vehicles with on-the-move broadband communications, enabling them to see and command the battle arena.
The deal is the first part of a multiple year contract, expected to be valued at about $400 million. Lockheed Martin is teamed with prime contractor General Dynamics and subcontractors BAE Systems, Harris Corp. and L-3 Communications on the WIN-T program.
“We are one step closer to helping warfighters stay connected to the systems they need while moving on the battlefield. The equipment being produced will help provide a clear operational picture for theater combatant commanders by keeping mobile forces connected, communicating and synchronized,” Jim Quinn, Lockheed Martin vice president of Information Systems & Global Solutions-Defense, said in a statement.
