[Satellite TODAY 04-23-10] Raytheon’s first quarter 2010 net income grew to $453 million from the same quarter in 2009, when it reported $449 million in operations income, the company announced in its latest financial results, released April 23.
Raytheon Space and Airborne Systems reported net sales of $1.09 billion, a 5 percent jump from the first quarter 2009. The division growth primarily was due to increased activity in classified business and a $90 million contract for the production of the Advanced Countermeasures Electronic System (ACES) for a government customer. The division’s operating income also increased to $159 million from $139 million in the same period last year due to improved program performance.
However, Raytheon’s Intelligence and Information Systems division first quarter 2010 net sales slipped to $730 million compared to $784 million in the first quarter 2009. Raytheon said the change primarily was due to lower net sales on a classified program and an international advanced border control and security program and lower volume and increased requirements on an international program.
The division booked $1.72 billion in new contracts this quarter, including $886 million on a contract to develop the next-generation GPS Advanced Control Segment (GPS-OCX) for the U.S. Air Force and $624 million on a number of classified contracts.
