[Satellite TODAY 03-26-10] Comtech AeroAstro has been awarded a $37.9 million contract to develop and deliver the spacecraft bus for the U.S. Navy’s Joint Milli-Arcsecond Pathfinder Survey (JMAPS) mission by March 2012, Comtech announced March 25.
    Based on a phase 3 SBIR award, the U.S. Navy Research Laboratory contract also contains $4.2 million in options for possible post-delivery technical support.
    Utilizing Comtech AeroAstro’s Astro 200AS bus, the JMAPS mission aims to update the star position catalog for national security and civil applications.
    “The capability offered by this spacecraft enables a range of new high-value mission and sensor options on an affordable platform that can be rapidly developed and deployed,” Comtech President and CEO Fred Kornberg said in a statement.
