[Satellite TODAY 02-10-10] The U.S. Department of Commerce is planning to create a U.S. National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Climate Service line office that will combine the agency’s climate science and service delivery capabilities, the agencies announced Feb. 9.
The merge aims to make NOAA services more accessible to its partners and other users, which includes satellite imagery and other commercial sector space companies. Thomas Karl, director of NOAA’s National Climatic Data Center, will serve as transitional director of NOAA Climate Service.
New positions for six NOAA regional climate services directors will be announced soon, the agency said.
