The U.S. Navy has issued a contract to CapRock Government Solutions to provide emergency satellite communications services as part of U.S. military relief efforts in Haiti, the company announced Feb. 2.
CapRock will provide communications to U.S. Naval Beach Group personnel for amphibious operations such as evacuations, food and medical supply delivery and the transport of bulk goods and resources from ships to land.
The services will run on CapRock’s CommandAccess commercial off-the-shelf communications suite at a reduced rate to the U.S. government. CapRock has partnered with FSS operator Telesat to provide dedicated Ku-band CommandAccess network support to the Navy’s relief and aid projects in Haiti. CapRock is providing iDirect hub resources and Ku-band teleport services, while Telesat is providing space segment to support the Navy’s voice, data and video applications.
“This Navy opportunity represents some of the first active sites on the new Ku-band version of CommandAccess. This service is the ideal solution for the Naval Beach Group because of its high reliability and flexibility to support a wide spectrum of uses,” CapRock Executive Vice President and General Manager David Myers said in a statement.
