[Satellite TODAY 11-18-09] The U.S. Coast Guard is in the process of deploying TracPhone V7 and mini-VSAT broadband services from KVH Industries on its 110- and 225-foot cutters, KVH announced Nov. 17.
The Coast Guard contracted the KVH services in order to replace older satellite communications systems. The military has already installed a KVH integrated antenna and service solution, which aims to offer increased bandwidth, reduce operating costs, and provide seamless coverage in key operational areas for the Coast Guard vessels.
“We are extremely proud to be supporting the men and women of the U.S. Coast Guard as they carry out vital missions around the globe. Real-time, reliable communications are critical, both to the operational safety and effectiveness of these vessels but also to the morale of their crews,” said KVH CEO Martin Kits van Heyningen, in a statement.
