[Satellite TODAY 09-30-09] RapidEye has been added to the prime vendor contract list for the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Foreign Agricultural Services as well as the USDA Office of Global Analysis (OGA) and the USDA International Production and Assessment Division, the imagery company announced Sept. 29.
    “The use of RapidEye satellite data should allow our crop analysts to use a finer resolution data set. … The convergence of evidence methodology is used to develop our crop acreage and yield estimates which is vital to our global food security analysis,” Robert Tetrault, satellite imagery archive manager for the agencies, said in a statement.
    RapidEye will provide the agencies with level 1B and 3A satellite imagery products from RapidEye’s imagery archive. The agencies also will have the option of employing RapidEye’s satelite constellation if an area they are interested in has not been imaged.
