[Satellite TODAY 09-30-09] Comtech Mobile Datacom received $7.3 million in Blue Force Tracking orders from the U.S. Army, the company announced Sept. 29.
Comtech will supply the Army with MT-2011 mobile satellite transceivers and related engineering and support services. The new orders brings Comtech’s Blue Force Tracking contract total to $213.8 out of a possible $216 million outlined in the Army contract, which was established in 2008.
“Our MT-2011 transceivers will seamlessly integrate with our backward compatible next-generation adaptive multiple-user detection technology that is currently being deployed throughout the U.S. Army’s global BFT network, and which enables a significant improvement in overall system performance and an increase in the number of possible concurrent network users,” Comtech President and CEO Fred Kornberg said in a statement.
The U.S. Army canceled a previously placed purchase order of $5 million for certain satellite air-time in order to place this new order within the confines of the current contract ceiling. The company said it expects that the Army will reorder the canceled satellite services when additional funding becomes available and the contract ceiling is increased.
