[Satellite TODAY 09-17-09] Artel has leased full Ku-band transponders on the Astra 3B satellite from SES World Skies, the operator announced.
Artel will use the capacity to provide the U.S. Department of Defense with broadband, IP voice, data and video solutions across a variety of regional operations.
Astra 3B, set to launch early next year, aims to help Artel meet growing U.S. government demand for end-to-end communications networks throughout Europe, the Middle East and Asia. Artel provides IT services to the U.S. Government, under the Defense Satellite Transmission Services – Global procurement program managed by the U.S. Defense Information Systems Agency.
The rise in communication needs across some of the world’s remotest regions is driving demand for reliable and robust satellite capacity capable of delivering connectivity where it’s needed most,” said Andrew Ruszkowski, SES World Skies vice president of North American sales, in a statement.
