[Satellite Today 05-13-09] GeoEye Inc. reported a revenue increase of 26 percent to $45.2 million compared to $35.9 million in the first quarter of 2008 in its first quarter 2009 financial results released May 12.
    However, the imagery company’s net loss widened to $1.74 million from $817,000 in 2008.
    GeoEye said the increase in losses relate to an increase in operating expenses, at $43.51 million from $30.29 million in 2008, attributed to operating and insuring the GeoEye-1 satellite and salary costs. GeoEye also attributed the increase in revenue to GeoEye-1, stating that the launch of its commercial operations in February resuled in increased     imagery orders from the U.S. National Geospatial Intelligence Agency.
    Income from operations for the first-quarter was $1.71 million, down from $5.62 million in the corresponding period last year.
