[Satellite Today 01-22-09] LBiSat Satellite Communications has implemented a hosted voice platform from Alianza to provide Voice Over IP (VOIP) services in remote regions for the U.S. Forest Service, Alianza announced Jan. 21.
LBiSat uses iDirect hub technology to support IP in a satellite environment.
Alianza’s platform is built on a service-oriented architecture and session initiation protocol design that works with iDirect hub technology to shape packets traveling over the Internet and to lower latency. The platform also includes a carrier-grade session border controller, soft switch, carrier interface, virtual PBX, billing support system and device provisioning module.
“Many of our customers, such as the U.S. Forest Service, are involved in emergency and disaster recovery efforts in remote areas,” Mike Lyman, director of project management at LBiSat, said in a statement. “They demand high-quality, low-latency VOIP services, which can be a challenge for satellite-based communications.”
