[Satellite Today 01-13-09] ViaSat has received a contract modification from the U.S. Army, through prime contractor Globecomm Systems Inc., to modify the Joint-Internet Protocol Modem to enable it to operate as the network-centric modem for the Global Broadcast Service (GBS), ViaSat announced Jan. 12.
ViaSat is under contract to make the modem compatible with GBS and U.S. Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) specifications by adding flow control and multi-cast IP filtering to flow one-way data packet traffic and prevent sending duplicate receive data to the GBS network.
The modem will be modified to operate as a two-way modem and GBS receiver through a second DVB-S2 demodulator and multi-cast filtering. ViaSat also incorporating GBS requirements to achieve new size, weight and power performance for the modem.
