[Satellite Today 11-06-08] DigitalGlobe has signed an agreement with DeCarta, a supplier of software and services for the location-based services (LBS) industry, under which DigitalGlobe will provide DeCarta’s geospatial platform customers access to the ImageBuilder high-resolution satellite and aerial imagery library, DigitalGlobe announced Nov. 6.
“As location-aware applications become more sophisticated, users of these services have come to expect imagery that allows them to better understand the context of an area,” said J. Kim Fennell, president and CEO of DeCarta. “This service agreement gives DeCarta’s LBS application developers to a new set of resources from which to create superior applications for government, consumer and commercial markets.”
DigitalGlobe’s high-resolution satellite constellation consists of QuickBird, WorldView-1 and WorldView-2 launching in the third quarter of 2009.
The company said its aerial program collects nearly 1 million square kilometers of earth imagery each day.
