The Joint Standoff Weapon C-1 (JSOW C-1) variant completed its critical design review, Raytheon Co. [RTN] announced.
JSOW C-1 adds moving maritime target capability and a two-way data link to the JSOW family.
"JSOW C-1 will represent the world’s first network-enabled weapon when it is delivered to the warfighter in 2010," said Cmdr. Andrew "Chunder" Kessler, deputy program manager for JSOW in the Navy Precision Strike Weapons program office.
Completion of the design review means Raytheon moved one step closer to delivering the JSOW C-1 to the Navy.
"Raytheon remains on track to begin captive carry testing of the JSOW C-1 from an F/A-18 Super Hornet aircraft next year," said Harry Schulte, vice president of Raytheon Missile Systems Air Warfare Systems product line.
The Navy and Raytheon are currently negotiating the first production lot of JSOW C-1 missiles. Contract award is expected in December.
