[Satellite Today – 5-12-08] Raytheon Co. has completed the manufacture and testing of the optics detector module for the aerosol polarimetry sensor aboard NASA’s Glory satellite, Raytheon announced May 12.
    The Glory Mission will help increase our understanding of the Earth’s energy balance by collecting data on the properties of aerosols and black carbon in the Earth’s atmosphere and how the Sun’s irradiance affects the Earth’s climate. The sensor will help the agency and other federal officials better understand the impact of aerosols on global warming and climate change.
    "With the successful demonstration of the optics detector module, we are well on our way to final delivery of the Glory aerosol polarimetry sensor," Brian Arnold, vice president for Raytheon’s Space Systems group said in a statement. "We are proud to be a part of this critical mission and look forward to contributing to the science community’s understanding of the forces affecting climate change."
