[Satellite Today – 4-25-08] India’s Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle is set for an April 28 mission that will carry 10 satellites, including the Cartsat-2A spacecraft, the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) announced April 24.
Cartosat-2A, India’s latest remote sensing satellite, carries a black-and-white camera capable of collecting images with a ground resolution of 1 meter. Cartosat-2A will work in conjunction with Cartosat-2, which was launched in January 2007.
The mission also will carry the Indian Mini Satellite (IMS-1), which was developed by ISRO and incorporates new technologies. IMS-1 carries a pair of optical payloads — a color camera and a hyperspectral camera. The data from this mission will be made available to developing countries.
Eight nanosatellites built by universities and research institutions in Canada and Germany are also being launched under a commercial agreement with Antrix Corp.
