[10-23-07 – Satellite Today] Radyne has received two orders for its advanced high-capacity troposcatter modem, the company announced Oct. 23.
The orders, one from an international oil and gas firm, and one from a U.S. Government customer, are worth approximately $800,000. One of the orders also included companion amplifiers from Radyne’s Xicom business unit.
Troposcatter, or over-the-horizon communications, is the ability to transmit radio waves over the curvature of the Earth by bouncing signals off irregularities (small changes in humidity, temperature and pressure) in the troposphere approximately 10 Km above the Earth’s surface. The TM-20 transfers data at speeds up to 20 Mbps. The modem also provides increased support for a variety of communications techniques to maximize transmission range and data integrity.
