[09-25-07 – Satellite Today] Comtech EF Data Corp., a subsidiary of Comtech Telecommunications Corp., received a contract to provide satellite communications equipment to support an unnamed U.S. government agency’s satellite-based communications network, the company announced Sept. 24.
The order includes the SLM-5650 satellite modem, the Vipersat management system, redundancy switches and tranceivers. The SLM-5650 was designed specifically for government satellite networks and supports data rates up to 155 megabits per second, offers gigabit Ethernet, advanced forward error correction and higher order modulation.
Under the $3.6 million contract, the modem will be configured with a number of features designed to optimize network performance, functionality and security, including a network processor module supporting the VMS for seamless IP-based bandwidth and capacity management and a transmission security module providing Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS)-140-2 Level 2 security.
