[8-29-07 – Satellite News Today] Geosemble Technologies Inc. won a contract from the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) for a system that will link online data with satellite imagery, Geosemble announced Aug. 29.
Geosemble will apply its TILES (Text-to-Image Linking and Embedding System) technology, which links online text and data sources with imagery, to assign textual keywords to geospatial datasets such as maps and imagery. TILES will superimpose summaries of related news articles and online information on top of target imagery. The system also will be able to link video and audio data and provide the information chronologically to users.
Using TILES, military decisionmakers will be able to view a satellite image of any place around the globe and automatically find and apply online text, video and mapping intelligence to that location, Geosemble said. The application also could have uses in commercial markets such as real estate, oil and gas, highway transportation, news media, and geological surveying, the company said.
