A satellite-based navigation system to facilitate seamless air travel across the Atlantic, Indian and Pacific oceans will be among improvements made through a Nov. 13 deal between the U.S. Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) and India’s Ministry of Civil Aviation, the Indian government reported.

The memorandum of agreement (MOA) would provide assistance by the FAA to India’s aviation sector for developing and modernizing the infrastructure throughout its managerial, operational and technical areas. Air-traffic control, training and procedures plus aviation safety standards and regulations are among subjects for scrutiny.

All such assistance will be provided on the basis of cost reimbursement; the U.S. holds similar signed agreements with more than 100 countries. "This agreement will help in getting FAA certification for Indian aviation products, and that will open new markets for us," said India’s Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel.
