HawkEye 360 is acquiring two radio frequency (RF) satellites from Maxar Intelligence that were part of Aurora Insight before Maxar acquired the company. HawkEye announced Monday it is acquiring the RF Solutions business from Maxar Intelligence, which includes two existing RF satellites, RF scanning intellectual property, a multi-year RF database, and personnel.

Maxar Intelligence previously acquired Aurora Insight in January 2023. Financial terms of the new deal were not disclosed.

HawkEye 360 operates satellites that detect, characterize, and geolocate a broad range of RF signals. This acquisition brings the company’s total number of satellites to 23. Company President Rob Rainhart called the acquisition a complimentary capability for the company. He said the Aurora Insight technology will allow HawkEye 360 to quickly scan gigahertz of bandwidth to map active frequencies at a regional level.

“We see meaningful business potential for this wideband scanning mission to accelerate our discovery of new signals and expand our capacity to serve government intelligence users,” said HawkEye 360 Chief Strategy Officer Patrick Zeitouni. “This acquisition will enable the exploration of new market segments, including the potential to support the burgeoning needs of commercial telecommunication operators.”
