Redwire announced Tuesday that it has acquired space biotech company Techshot, which works on microgravity, bioprinting, and on-orbit manufacturing. Techshot has four payloads currently on the International Space Station, and its products include the 3D BioFabrication Facility, which is capable of manufacturing human tissue in microgravity.

Techshot is based in Floyd County, Indiana, where it has a manufacturing facility.

Redwire said this acquisition fits into its strategy to scale in-space manufacturing in Low-Earth Orbit (LEO). The company is part of the team recently announced with Blue Origin and Sierra Space to build a private space station, and Redwire plans to work on microgravity research, development, and manufacturing, along with payload operations and deployable structures.

“As part of Redwire, we now have more of the resources we need to help accelerate the development of our growing portfolio of new space biomedical technologies, while we continue to provide great service to our research and deep space exploration customers,” said Techshot president and co-founder John Vellinger.

Redwire was formed in June 2020 and has been built through a series of acquisitions including Made in Space and Deployable Space Systems. This is its first acquisition since going public through a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) merger in September.
