[Via Satellite 08-15-2016] SpaceX launched the JCSAT 16 telecommunications satellite for Japan-based Sky Perfect JSAT August 14 using a Falcon 9 rocket and successfully landed the first stage on the droneship “Of Course I Still Love You.” The mission took place from Space Launch Complex 40 at Cape Canaveral, Florida, with support from the U.S. Air Force’s 45th Space Wing.

Space Systems Loral (SSL), manufacturer of JCSAT 16, reports that the satellite deployed its solar arrays on schedule and is performing post-launch maneuvers according to plan. JCSAT 16 is a multi-mission satellite designed to function as an in-orbit backup for video distribution and data transfer communications services. The 8.5-kW satellite, which has both Ku- and Ka-band capabilities, will serve the Japanese market from multiple orbital locations. SSL is also building JCSAT 15, which is expected to launch later this year with Arianespace.
