Gilat Satcom has launched a new VSAT service to provide Southeast Africa with high-bandwidth Internet connectivity, the communication solutions provider announced Nov. 5.
The new VSAT service is based on Gilat Satellite Networks’ SkyEdge 2 technology and operates over the Amos 5 Ku-beam covering from South Africa to the northern reaches of the DRC and aims to provide high bandwidth from 512/256 to 2048/512 kbps. The service is designed to provide subscribers with continuous, high-speed broadband connectivity under all weather conditions at low cost kit.
“Traditionally, the Ku band suffered from service interruption in cases of severe weather conditions. Our service now automatically ensures 99.9 percent availability at the highest capacity under any weather condition,” Gilat Satcom Vice President of Sales, Africa Alex Petropouliadis said in a statement.
