Honeywell Aerospace Technologies will develop new quantum-secure encryption keys for space-to-terrestrial networks under the terms of a new strategic partnership with Nokia and Numana.

“Honeywell Aerospace Technologies welcomes the opportunity to join forces with Nokia and Numana to advance quantum-safe communications. Our quantum encryption technology will play a critical role in securing satellite networks and improving the integrity of data transmitted from space to earth,” Honeywell Aerospace Vice President of Space Lisa Napolitano said in the announcement, posted Monday.

Numana will provide its Kirq Quantum Communication Testbed to help the group advance Quantum-Safe Networks (QSN) in Montreal, Canada, and worldwide. The partners said that the project will benefit from commitments made by governments in Quebec and greater Canada to promote leadership in cybersecurity technology. The Numana facility in Quebec will serve as a hub where enterprises, research institutions, and government agencies can explore, evaluate, and validate secure networking technologies in a real-world environment.

Nokia said it would leverage its expertise in post-quantum networking, incorporating advanced IP routers, high-capacity optical transport nodes, and quantum-safe cryptographic technologies. The company also said it intends to utilize the Numana testbed to foster collaborative-based innovations, enabling the development of solutions within the broader quantum technology ecosystem.

The collaboration also includes the development of quantum encryption education and training programs, as well as support for cybersecurity research and development.
