Space ISAC has opened a new Watch Center Hub in Australia to provide a global perspective on real-time threat intelligence. Announcing the hub, Space ISAC said the hub will expand its regular forum that brings together members of the Space ISAC in Australia, facilitate cooperation, enable coordination, and drive toward an operational cadence of ‘all threats, all hazards’ information sharing.

Deloitte is working with Space ISAC to support the Watch Center Hub. Deloitte Space Partner Byron Riessen will be the primary designee for representation of the Australia Global Hub on the Space ISAC board of directors. Riessen leads a team of space systems engineers and space innovation program experts, engaged on projects both in Australia and internationally. He has also established Deloitte’s global space & geospatial tech accelerator program, the Gravity Challenge.

“When cyberattacks occur, time is of the essence, so the ability to quickly identify cyber threats to space is a mission imperative. The Watch Center Hubs Deloitte is enabling are equipped with a dedicated team of specialists who use cutting-edge technologies to quickly identify vulnerabilities and threats, protecting satellites — and the data they store and share – across the globe,” commented retired Lt. Gen. Chris Weggeman, managing director of Deloitte & Touche LLP.

The Space ISAC Australia Forum will further the Space ISAC mission with an Australian focus. The Space ISAC Australia Forum will also lead collective outreach to the broader space, cyber and intelligence communities within Australia. Space ISAC’s international expansion plan includes engaging regions of the world where a coalescence of space and cyber industry and public sector entities are seeking to raise the global security posture for the space sector and establish Global Hubs for the Space ISAC Watch Center as part of a larger network throughout the world.

This comes after Space ISAC opened its first Watch Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado last year, where analysts monitor data feeds, detect threats, build incident reports, and share information.

“Designating Australia as a Global Hub for the Space ISAC propels threat sharing and operational collaboration to a new moment where collective defense means aligning public and private space sectors globally to improve the overall resilience of the space industry. This designation is the beginning of our efforts to scale globally through the designation of multiple global hubs over the next months and years,” Erin Miller, executive director at Space ISAC, said in a statement.

Separately, 21Software joined Space ISAC as a member, the company announced November 19. The company has a dedicated focus on securing space assets, with expertise in software lifecycle development and secure software solutions. Its products are engineered specifically for operators to offer threat detection, risk management, and incident response in space environments.
