Orange Africa and Middle East (Orange) and Eutelsat Group partnered to connect isolated areas in Africa and the Middle East with broadband access through satellite connectivity, Eutelsat announced on March 4.

In the multi-year partnership, Orange will use Eutelsat’s Konnect satellite to provide internet services. The focus will start in Jordan, Côte d’Ivoire, Senegal, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, with future deployment plans to extend coverage to other countries in the region.

Jérôme Hénique, managing director of Orange commented: “This partnership illustrates our commitment to connecting all territories and bridging the digital divide in Africa and the Middle East. Today, Orange serves more than 160 million customers in the region, and is pursuing its ambition to provide digital access for all.”

This collaboration will use advanced technology to deliver internet speeds of up to 100 Mbps. It will enable coverage of rural and underserved areas, provide services tailored to local conditions, and ensure secure connectivity that complies with national regulations.

Orange and Eutelsat aim to offer customized internet services for both individuals and businesses. The integration of fixed, mobile, and satellite technologies will help connect isolated territories and meet the demand for internet access.

“Our satellite technology including Geostationary Orbit (GEO) capacity, combined with Orange’s local footprint, brings connectivity where it’s needed most,” Cyril Dujardin, Eutelsat’s president of the Connectivity business unit said. “Together, we’re creating a robust solution to accessibility challenges, providing reliable and affordable connectivity for consumers and businesses alike.”

Orange currently utilizes Eutelsat’s Konnect VHTS satellite to offer broadband services to its customers in France.
