ST Engineering iDirect and Verizon Frontline are demonstrating public safety connectivity solutions this week ahead of the Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans, ST Engineering announced Feb. 6.
The event, hosted by Verizon’s public safety network business Verizon Frontline, will feature solutions designed to provide connectivity during emergency scenarios, including products that use ST Engineering iDirect’s satellite technology. These include the THOR (tactical humanitarian operations response) vehicle, SPOT (satellite picocell on trailer), OXEN (off-grid, cross-communications network) trailer and a tactical command center.
The SPOT, for example, supports up to 400 users with satellite backhaul and Wi-Fi access. And the OXEN trailer offers 5G ultra-wideband, 4G LTE, satellite backhaul, and power capabilities via solar or generators. The tactical command center provides critical communications options for first responders.
“The integration of ST Engineering iDirect’s satellite solutions enables us to deliver unparalleled connectivity to first responders, ensuring they remain operational under all circumstances,” said Stuart Burson, group director of Verizon Satellite Solutions.
Verizon has recently promoted multiple ways that it works with satellite connectivity. Earlier this week, Verizon released a commercial featuring Buzz Aldrin, which promoted direct-to-device and showcased Verizon’s push to eliminate cellular “dead zones” through satellite connectivity.
