Speedcast has sold more than 10,000 Starlink kits as an authorized integrator of SpaceX’s satellite internet service. Speedcast announced the milestone on Wednesday and previewed that Starlink plans to introduce service level agreements (SLAs) in 2025.
Speedcast said it has deployed Starlink for more than a third of its customers. This includes maritime and enterprise applications and its UltiSat subsidiary that sells to the U.S. government. Speedcast resells Starlink either in primary, multipath or dual Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) service.
Up until this point Starlink has not offered service level agreements and that is often cited by other satellite operators as a key differentiating factor from Starlink. Speedcast said the introduction of SLAs will bring more opportunities for the reseller.
“Starlink’s performance means that it has rapidly become a key component of Speedcast’s expansive connectivity toolkit. Next year, we look forward to the introduction of a 99.9% SLA from Starlink, representing just one of the developments that will further drive sales growth in 2025,” said James Trevelyan, executive vice president of Global Sales at Speedcast.
Speedcast customers rely on multipath offerings, Alix Wright, senior vice president of Marketing Communications said in a statement to Via Satellite. This helps customers deal with any disruptions, such as the Intelsat-33e failure last month.
“When that satellite failure occurred, more than 80% of Speedcast’s impacted customer sites were either seamlessly switched over to alternate connectivity or migrated in less than 10 minutes of the satellite outage. The remaining customer sites were restored within a matter of hours the same day,” Wright said.
UltiSat CEO David Myers recently spoke with Via Satellite about how the company integrates satellite communications for disaster response, including LEO terminals. UltiSat delivered 500 terminals to a federal relief agency in October to be pre-positioned for Hurricane Milton’s landing, and others to help with the recovery for Hurricane Helene.
