Gilat Satellite Networks received a contract to provide rural connectivity, including supporting banking transactions in Latin America. Gilat announced the $4 million contract on Oct. 8, but did not name the customer. The contract period is three years.

Gilat will provide satellite communications solutions to distant bank branches and satellite backup links to ensure connectivity and business continuity. This will contribute to the customer’s core banking, e-mail, security, ATMs and point of sale.

“We are very pleased to support essential banking services in the rural areas of Latin America,” commented Ron Levin, Gilat’s chief commercial offficer. “Over the years, we have built a robust satellite network, continuously enhancing it with the latest technological advancements. This ensures that we consistently meet the high-quality standards required for business continuity, even in remote areas and in the face of potential disasters.”

Gilat has done substantial business in connecting rural areas in Latin America, including awards last year to contribute cellular backhaul to Mexico’s “Internet for All” program, and a deal with TIM Brasil to provide cellular backhaul to connect 5,570 cities in Brazil
