Starlink will be able to offer satellite broadband services in Sri Lanka, a country in South Asia with a population of around 22 million people. The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL) has issued a service provider license to Starlink, which means Starlink can now offers its broadband services to customers in this market. The announcement was made on Aug. 13.

The development follows a recent meeting between Sri Lanka’s President Ranil Wickremesinghe and Elon Musk in Indonesia. During the meeting, they discussed expediting the application process to connect Sri Lanka to Starlink, with the aim of enhancing Sri Lanka’s access to high-speed internet via satellite technology. Musk traveled to Indonesia in May, when Starlink access was expanded to Indonesia and Fiji.

Starlink Lanka can now offer satellite broadband services across the country. The license has already come into effect. It is seen as a significant step forward for the country as it looks to give more people access to high-speed internet.
