Eutelsat and Hispasat have both signed new broadcast deals in Latin America over the last couple of days. Hispasat has signed a deal with Travelxp, a creator of exclusive specialized travel content, that will see Hispasat distribute its HD channel in Latin America for the next three years. The deal was announced April 18.
The teleport at Lurin in Peru and the Amazonas satellite fleet, located at 61 degrees West, will be used for this purpose. Travelxp HD is a pay-per-view thematic travel channel offering premium content filmed around the world and distributed to nearly 200 million households in more than 100 countries and 25 languages.
Hispasat’s fellow European operator Eutelsat also announced a new broadcast deal in Latin America with one of Mexico’s biggest broadcasters. Grupo Televisa, a Mexican multimedia company and one of the leading Latin American media corporations producing Spanish-speaking content across the globe is teaming up with Eutelsat in a new deal as it embarks on a growth strategy in Europe. It announced April 19 that it has signed a deal with Eutelsat to extend the reach of its content in Europe. It will do this via the Eutelsat 9b satellite.
“Televisa is committed to continuing the distribution of Televisa Networks Programming to all our affiliates and consumers in Europe. Eutelsat’s satellite gives us the ability to do so with high-quality coverage,” Williams Aguirre, General Director of Satellite Operations at Grupo Televisa, said in a statement.
