SES has agreed to provide satellite-based trunking services to Integra Multisolutions (IMS) in Colombia to connect underserved communities. SES announced Dec. 15 that the new service will begin on the O3b Medium-Earth Orbit (MEO) constellation and then migrate onto O3b mPOWER in 2022 when service will expand to additional cities.

IMS is a Colombian fiber optic networks service provider, and it is among the first companies in Latin America to sign up for the O3b mPOWER system. SES’s trunk mPOWERED service will allow IMS to enable local internet service providers to serve enterprise, residential, MNO, and civilian government projects.

The first site to be connected will be Puerto Leguizamo, a municipality in the southern border region of the country. SES and IMS will focus on sparsely populated cities that experience poor or inconsistent connectivity services.

“Our goal is to provide our end users the best quality of service across Colombia, which means access to high-performing services at all times, no matter where they are. The capabilities of the proven O3b MEO fleet, and the scalability and flexibility of the upcoming O3b mPOWER services combined with SES satellite network and IMS fibre optics networks expertise, allow us to achieve exactly that,” said Juan Carlos Hernandez Mendoza, CEO of IMS Group.
