The ST Engineering iDirect Evolution platform is being deployed in the Philippines with Intelsat’s Horizons 3e satellite to expand broadband service across the archipelago. This deployment is through a long-term partnership with a local Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) service provider.

The Philippines is an island nation and its geography makes it difficult to connect through terrestrial technology. ST Engineering iDirect said the service provider chose the Evolution platform because it required a platform that could deliver reliable broadband internet services despite the scattered location of its customer base and wet weather conditions. The company also said its adaptive Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) technology allows remotes to dynamically adapt transmissions to the hub to suit current link conditions, and will allow the service provider to overcome issues with rainfade.

“We have invested in our coverage of the region to ensure that even the most remote islands are connected with reliable broadband services. Our footprint, combined with ST Engineering iDirect’s innovative ground technology, is enabling more people to benefit from the power and reach of satellite connectivity, resulting in improved services and better opportunities for the population no matter where they’re located,” commented Terry Bleakley, regional vice president of Asia Pacific Sales for Intelsat.
