Spacebridge has delivered a solution for 2G/4G mobile cellular backhaul over satellite network to a Mobile Network Operator (MNO) in Africa. The company said the solution will service unserved remote areas and replace current technology. The MNO was not named, but Spacebridge described it as Africa’s largest MNO that operates over the majority of Africa and the Middle East. Spacebridge was first selected for the contract last year, and the solution was delivered in February.

The backhaul solution is equipped with SpaceBridge’s WaveSwitch patented technology, which the company says enables VSAT stations to switch between SCPC, A-SCPC, or MF-TDMA waveforms.  In addition, the SpaceBridge satellite platform is integrated with eNodeB terrestrial equipment, designed to enable the MNO to adjust to the cellular traffic growth.

“Such flexibility will enable the population to receive the adequate service for years to come and at the same time at better transmission quality, providing faster internet access for sending pictures, videos, texts, and superior voice communications,” a Spacebridge release said.
