[Via Satellite 07-21-2016] Canadian telecommunications company Telus has initiated 4K Ultra-HD broadcasting for British Columbians and Albertans with the launch of 4K on the company’s Optik TV platform. At launch, Telus’ 4K lineup will include TSN 4K, adrenaline sports, Stingray Ambiance and a growing collection of on demand movies and Optik Local productions. New titles and channels will be added on an ongoing basis as additional 4K programming becomes available from content providers.
To access 4K programming, customers will require a 4K TV, a 4K Personal Video Recorder (PVR), as well as a minimum of Telus’ Internet 50 service package to support 4K streaming. Telus’ new 4K PVRs will store up to 400 hours of HD content, or up to 100 hours of 4K content. The company is offering them at no additional cost with a two-year commitment. According to Telus, it is the first and currently only carrier in Western Canada to offer 4K programming.
“We’re just beginning to see the introduction of 4K programming, and over the next few years it will become industry standard,” said Wade Domries, Telus VP of home solutions. “As more and more shows, movies and sporting events are produced in 4K, Telus customers will be able to enjoy the most advanced TV viewing experience available.”
