[Via Satellite 05-13-2016] The Russian Satellite Communications Company (RSCC) has started offering broadband services in Ka-band using the Express AM6 satellite. The high-speed Internet service uses Express AM6 at 53 degrees east, as well as Express AM5 at 140 degrees east, which covers territory from Kaliningrad to Petropavlovsk Kamchatsky in Russia with a total length of about 7,000 kilometers.
RSCC began offering Ka-band satellite broadband in the spring of 2015 using domestic spacecraft in Russia’s Far East and Siberia. Since April 2016, the service area of high-speed satellite system expanded to include the country’s Central and Southern Ural regions.
A central switching station and antenna systems located in the Khabarovsk Space Communications Center (SCC), and a central switching station with antenna systems and network management systems in the Dubna SCC near Moscow help enable the satellite service. RSCC has partnered with prominent local satellite communications companies Isatel, Ka-Internet and CB Iskra to facilitate the service.
