[Via Satellite 06-11-2015] Hispasat and Spanish telecom startup Syntelix have teamed up to create a maritime service known as uSAIL. The broadband service, built using a Hispasat-owned Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) iDirect Evolution platform, has a cloud ecosystem and is designed to meet the seasonal nature and specific demands of the nautical market.
Oriented toward the Western European market with Ku-band capacity from the Hispasat 1E satellite at 30 degrees west, the uSAIL broadband Internet access service connects all types of ships and boats, and provides different qualities of service according to user profiles, ranging from a basic connection for crew, to maximum quality connections for Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) reception – always a la carte and on demand. It also includes an IP telephone combined with specific solutions for crew welfare and maritime streaming.
