[Via Satellite 12-26-2014] Starting January 2015, airlines will be able to equip Boeing 777 aircraft with satellite connectivity systems from Global Eagle Entertainment (GEE). On Dec. 22 the company announced it has received Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approval via a Supplemental Type Certificate to install Ku-band satellite connectivity systems on the aircraft.

“The B777 has received more orders than any other wide-body aircraft, and GEE’s STC approval is an important achievement in the growth of Ku-band satellite connectivity to airlines,” said Aditya Chatterjee, senior vice president, connectivity systems and CTO at GEE, adding that the approval furthers the company’s expansion into the In-Flight Connectivity (IFC) market.
