[Via Satellite 12-11-2014] OpenSky, a systems integrator has purchased an initial VSAT network from Gilat Satellite Networks for Uruguay’s state-owned telecommunications company ANTEL. The order calls for a fully redundant SkyEdge 2-c hub, along with 250 Ku- and C-band remote sites across the country. The contract includes installation, training and three years of extended SatCare support.

OpenSky has worked with ANTEL since 2007. Gilat CEO Erez Antebi said he anticipates future business opportunities in Uruguay as a result of this initial network. “Our cooperation with OpenSky has opened up an entirely new market for us,” he said. Rollout of the new VSAT network is scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2014.
