[Via Satellite 09-25-2014] SES has joined the Clinton Global Initiative, and as a commitment to action has unveiled an electronic-health, or e-health platform named SATMED. Currently under development with a number of medically focused Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), the satellite-based cloud-computing platform will provide e-health and mobile health (m-health) tools for doctors and international organizations.
Medical professionals using SATMED will have access to Internet services in areas unreached by terrestrial connectivity. In addition to providing e-care, e-learning, e-health administration and e-health financing, the platform will also function as a means of secure data storage, exchange, and backup via the cloud.
SES intends to provide as many as 15 satellite terminals at project locations in Bangladesh, Benin, Eritrea, Guinea, the Philippines, and Sierra Leone. Friendship, German Doctors, Médecins Sans Frontières, Archemed, and Fondation Follerau Luxembourg are all working closely with the company to develop the platform.
