[Via Satellite 07-23-2014] The Russian Hydro-meteorological Service (Roshydromet) signed an agreement with Russian Satellite Communications Company (RSCC) and partner ООО Isatel to provide maritime connectivity to the research and survey vessel Akademik Tryoshnikov. The vessel will stay connected during its 82-day expedition using an RSCC-installed VSAT, a maritime stabilized SeaTel antenna and the Somatom control complex.
Roshydromet is working with RSCC to expand the communication systems of the agency’s maritime facilities. Russia’s Arctic and Antarctic Scientific Research Institute, a part of Roshydromet, organized the contract. Passengers aboard the ship will have access to broadband for research purposes as well as personal use.
The Akademik Tryoshnikov’s mission is to study hydro-meteorological and ice conditions in the Kara, Laptev and Chukotka seas. The vessel is slated to embark on its journey on July 29, 2014 returning Oct. 10, 2014.
