[Via Satellite 07-02-2014] Inmarsat has signed an agreement with Airbus Defence and Space for high throughput terminals designed for airborne Global Xpress (GX) customers. Inmarsat 5, the first GX satellite placed into orbit, began operations in June 2014. The new agreement extends a partnership which concluded in December 2013 for Ka-band service options within Airbus Defence and Space’ AuroraGlobal portfolio.

The latest partnership is targeted especially toward customers who would use GX for helicopters and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), along with other aircraft. Airbus Defence and Space also provides the “AirPatrol” satcom terminals, as well as other avionics products.
