[Via Satellite 06-23-2014] SAT Corporation, a subsidiary of Kratos Defense and Security Solutions, provided a global satellite operator with Carrier Identification (Carrier ID) technology for its ground network to assist in identifying and combating Radio Frequency (RF) interference. Carrier ID ultimately helped the operator assure quality service as global broadcast demands increased for the World Cup in Brazil.
Satellite interference is a challenge in the industry, particularly the non-malicious interference caused by the increasing number of satellite devices and services deployed around the world. Carrier ID helps users identify the source of interference because it is embedded into a video or data transmission path, thereby speeding cross-verification between operators.
SAT uses Binary Phase Shift Keying (BPSK) spread spectrum modulation, differential encoding, scrambling and a concatenated error protection strategy in its Monics product with Carrier ID technology. The Kratos subsidiary’s satID product enables operators to geographically locate less common, but more threatening, forms of intentional interference, such as malicious jamming.
