[Via Satellite 06-20-14] Thaicom installed more than 30 Newtec M6100 broadcast satellite modulators on the platform for the Thaicom 6 satellite, allowing the spacecraft to provide television broadcasting in C-band and Ku-band. Along with the modulators, Thaicom installed Newtec’s Automated Equalink technology, which provides space capacity savings by allowing broadcasters to gain up to 10 percent greater throughput without changing system parameters or Set-Top Boxes (STBs), enabling some Standard Definition (SD) programs to upgrade to High Definition (HD) or to add content.

Included in Newtec’s modulators is the company’s Clean Channel technology, which combines improved roll-offs for Second Generation Digital Video Broadcasting – Satellite (DVB S2) standards and advanced filtering technologies, which offer higher efficiencies and an improvement in performance of around 1.2 dB.

The extension to the DVB S2 standard, the DVB S2X, is also now implemented in the latest Newtec products and is available as a software upgrade. This new standard brings with it lower roll-offs and increased granularity in Modulation and Coding (MODCOD) choice.
