[Via Satellite 06-13-2014] Gogo received a Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) from the United States’ Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and certification from the Japanese Civil Aviation Bureau (JCAB) for its Ku-band-based satellite connectivity service on Japan Airlines’ (JAL) 737-800 aircraft. This marks the fourth certification that Gogo received for JAL connectivity services, and is the last certification required to install the service on JAL’s complete domestic fleet.
Gogo partnered with JAL in October of 2013 to install the connectivity service and Gogo Vision, its wireless In-Flight Entertainment (IFE) service on the airline’s domestic fleet. The communications provider now holds more than 60 STCs for connectivity services covering many types of commercial aircraft and Gogo’s Air-to-Ground (ATG), ATG 4 and Ku-band satellite technologies.
“The 737-800 is the last piece in the puzzle for JAL,” said Michael Small, Gogo’s president and CEO. “We are already in the install process on several other aircraft types and expect to have a consumer launch on JAL later this summer.”
