[Via Satellite 06-11-2014] Media Networks’ iSAT Ka-band platform is now powering a new satellite home Internet service for Chile’s Movistar, which will cover the central region of the country, including the city’s capital district of Santiago. The service offering will initially consist of four plans of 2, 3, 4 and 6 Mbps.
The service is already being marketed in other countries to expand its presence in the coming months. Media Networks’ satellite platform is currently operating in Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Peru and Ecuador, in addition to Chile.
“iSAT-Ka has tremendous potential to complement the coverage other types of networks offer. This is why it is crucial to universal access to broadband in the region, creating a better quality of life for individuals and progress in the region,” said Gustavo Arditti, iSAT business director and director of Media Networks in Chile.
In the last four years, Media Networks built two satellite gateways — one in Arica, Chile and another in Laredo, Texas. The company also opened up a monitoring center in Lima, Peru to control its operations in the region.
